All the other five bosses felt like a joy to fight against, but Odin’s abilities are just way too overpowered to feel great fighting against. The game did a good job so far to feel “fair”, yet that boss feels like it was design to frustrate you. I would have given Jotun a near-perfect score if it wasn’t for the infuriating final boss. Bosses don’t feel overpowered but still require strategy to defeat them. Thora controls nicely and can pack a punch once you get used to her. The difficulty is refined and challenging in the way that you feel you can win with enough patience. It fits the game’s theme perfectly.Īs I stated before, I hate difficult games, so imagine my surprise when I liked it the way I did. What would have made this game even more perfect is animated cutscenes. I will never stop loving the use of hand drawn animations in games. The art style is really good and best shows in the game’s bosses in my opinion. And right there, you have a recipe for the most exhilarating boss fights ever. Combine intense music, bosses that will wreck your s**t up if you’re not careful and add some of the finest hand drawn animation you will get to experience in a game. Jotun has the best boss fights I’ve ever experience in a game. “In Jotun, you play Thora, a Viking warrior who died an inglorious death and must prove herself to the Gods to enter Valhalla.” I got this game for free in some kind of giveaway and I almost feel guilty that I didn’t pay for it myself. Defeat the giants and earn the rune.I honestly think that Jotun: Valhalla Edition is my favourite “difficult” game of all time, and that’s coming from someone who hates difficult games. Use the rock throwing giants to create bridges and climb to the island. The rune in this level is located on a central island guarded by fire giants. To find the rune, complete the puzzles to visualize the sacred deer, then take the path through the previously closed gate to the middle island, and summon Hagalaz. The rune here is located beyond a series of lightning puzzles that recreate constellations in the sky. In order to get to the rune you must fight your way past the nest, and break a branch to head ever upward and find the rune on the highest branch. Opposite the Roots of Yggdrasil, this level has you climbing the tree tops to find rune, while defending yourself from a giant eagle. Head north from here to find the rune and summon Isa. Look for a big island and head North to find an island with two giant dragon statues. The rune lies between the many islands that dot the rivers. Avoid it all the way to the end to find the rune. This relatively linear level will have you dodging the giant worm as it breaks through the ice in various areas. The last wave of enemies, located after finding Mimir's well, guards the rune to summon Fe. As you move further through the mine and into the underground city, you'll take on more enemies. Enter the mines to fight hordes of dwarven enemies. The bridge leading to the rune is destroyed, requiring you to find another path. At the bottom you'll pass the giant dragon, Nidhogg, and find the rune nearby. This Rune is fairly straightforward, as you'll spend the entire level sliding down roots to the very bottom of the great tree. Once this enemy has been defeated, you can enter and fine the rune to summon Jera. In order to open the door to the Barrows, you must locate all three Disr in the level, and return to the Barrow door to fight a Draugr. You'll find this rune deep in the Barrows.
